Lailey VineyardLailey Vineyard

Donna and David Lailey have been growing superior quality vinifera grapes for over 40 years on their 20 acres (approximately eight hectares) vineyard located just a few kilometres south of Niagara-on-the-Lake on the Niagara Parkway.
When Donna and David Lailey purchased the property from David’s father, the land was used to grow cherries, pears, plums and peaches. There were a few rows of vinifera grapes. The family quickly decided to devote all the land to vines and planted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir among other varieties. Originally, they worked the vineyards learning the intricacies of viticulture from ground up. In the process, Donna ands David came to the conclusion that canopy management, low yield, and hand harvesting, are very important quality contributors.

When wineries and home winemakers that used Lailey grapes started receiving awards for their wines, the couple realized the potential of their terroir and the fruits of their labour.

A few years later in the summer of 2000, Donna, David their daughter Tanya, and her husband Yves with Derek Barnett and his wife decided to create Lailey Vineyard Wines Inc. By 2001 Donna’s brother architect Barry Isener, designed and supervised the construction of the winery.

Derek Barnett was the winemaker of award-winning Southbrook winery for 12 years before joining the Lailey’s, and purchased fruit from them.

Barnett’s winemaking style strives to extract the true character and taste profile of the variety.

A recent tasting on the premises revealed how well the wines were made with good balance, integrity and infinite care.

Although the portfolio consists of one dozen wines, all deserve the attention of serious consumers.

The red wine portfolio: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet/Merlot, Pinot Noir and Zweigelt.

The white wine portfolio: Chardonnay, Old Vines Chardonnay, Riesling (dry and icewine), Sauvignon Blanc and Vidal.
