Australian wineries in Ontario are represented by many agencies. Some promote popular, modestly priced wines, others specialize in better quality, medium to high priced, and many of them represent good value.

B and W Wines, probably the most quality oriented agency, represents some of the best and best value wines.

Recently, the agency showcased its Australian portfolio.

White wines

Bella Coppia, Arneis, 2011, First Drop

Tropical fruit aromas dominate with a mid-weight texture. Appealing flavours with a long finish.

Julius Riesling, 2012, Henschke, Eden Valley South Australia

This fruity, off dry riesling shows typical `petrol aromas, with a fine acid balance. Refreshing and well balanced.

The Violonist Verdelho, 2011, Mollydocker

Verdelho is one of the grape varieties of Madeira and has been planted in Australia recently. This version shows tropical fruit aromas with a medium bodied palate and pleasant flavour.

Y-Series Vermentino, 2011, Yalumba

Originally from Italy, vermentino grows well in warm wine regions in Australia. This is a nicely balanced, lively, fruity wine to please all.

2 % Barossa Shiraz, 2009, First Drop

An outstanding shiraz from the famous Barossa Valley brimming with berry aromas. Full bodied, and deeply flavoured.

Keyneton Euphonium, 2009, Henschke

This is one of the best blends from Henschke at a reasonable price. Dark red, full bodied, brimming with ripe berry aromas.

Orphan Bank Shiraz, 2009, Langmeil

Intense, dark fruit, violets and raspberry aromas waft out of the glass. Full bodied, rich with luscious chocolate, ad spice flavours. An excellent wine to pair with medium-rare steaks, or roast rib of beef, deer medallions, wild boar stews, or venison steaks.

Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz, 2009, Mollydooker

A shiraz to remember because of its aromas and intensity.

The Velvet Glove, 2009, Mollydooker

A superbly crafted, intense, well structured, and deeply flavoured shiraz. The first sip invited the second and the first glass the second.

Hyland Shiraz, 2008, Penley Estates, Coonawara, South Australia

This region, famous for its “red soil”, is well known for its luscious red wines. This shiraz has an intensity rarely found in others. Dark red, intense, fruity, and full-bodied.

Ares Shiraz, 2008, Two Hands Wines

An outstanding, refined, elegant, full-bodied, intense, deeply flavoured shiraz from one of the finest wineries in South Australia.

Octavius, 2006, Yalumba

Dark red, dark berry aromas, full bodied, well balanced, powerful wine with an excellent and long finish.

High Sands McLaren Vale Grenache, 2006, Yangarra Estate

Grenache in Australia is usually blended with shiraz, mourvedre, but in this case the winemaker decided to bottle it is a varietal.
Crimson in colour, superbly balanced, full bodied, fruity with a long and satisfying finish.
