Professor B’s May 24 Vintages Release Recommendations


This 100 plus brand release contains a relatively large Rhone Valley line up, but unfortunately none scored well enough to make it to my recommendations.


Armorik Double Maturation Single Malt Breton Whisky, Distillerie Warenghem, France
Yes, you read it right. France produces whisky. This Breton whisky emanates elderflower, citrus and raspberry aromas. It is smooth, smoky with a mellow finish.

Smells of orange peel, apricot, clover honey and Scottish marmalade dominate the nose. Smooth and thought-provoking on the palate.

Fortified wine

Broadbent Rainwater Medium-dry Madeira, Justino’s, Madeira Wines S.A., Madeira, Portugal
Aromas of raisin and figs become discernible after swirling the glass a few times. In the mouth the wine feels sweet and spicy at the same time. It is fine wine to enjoy after an extended meal.

Sauvignon Blanc, 2012, Cliff Lede, Napa Valley, California
A blend of (equal proportions of barrel, concrete tank and stainless steel) aging makes this wine unique in both flavour and texture. Smells of pineapple, citrus fruits and cantaloupe dominate. Full-bodied with a smoky finish.
