Professor B’s August 16 Vintages Release Recommendations


During the summer months people enjoy refreshing, fragrant, and light white wines, yet Vintages managers decided for this mid summer release to select more red wines from France, Spain, Argentina, Chile, and as usual from California

Surprisingly, there are only four rose wines offered, and only one was deemed to be just fine.


Inocente Single Vineyard Fino Sherry, Valdespino, Jerez-de-la-Frontera, Spain
Valdespino is an old, venerable sherry winery. It still ferments is wines in 600 litre oak barrels, which is an expensive and time-consuming process.
This dry fino smells of hay, herbs, and salted almonds, Full bodied, elegant, and well balanced. Enjoyable as an aperitif, or with Spanish cheeses (Manchego, cabrales), or seafood tapas, or Spanish hams

This blend offers aromatic and tropical fruit aromas. On the palate, it is soft, round, creamy, and rich. An extremely well balanced wines to pair with grilled seafood, grilled pork chops, or bbq chicken.

Granny Smith apple, peach and oak smells greet the nose. Full bodied and well balanced. Elegant and powerful.

An absolutely delightful, light, aromatic single vineyard wine from the Niagara Escarpment. Well balanced, crisp and fresh.

Red wines

Bramare Malbec, 2011, Vina Cobos, Uco valley, Mendoza, Argentina
Cherry and blueberry aromas abound. Full bodied, spicy, and herbal flavours on the palate.
Would benefit from two to three years of cellaring. If you decide to drink it now, pair it with medium-rare grilled steaks, roast leg of lamb, beef stew, or hard, well aged cheeses.
Make sure to decant the wine at least two hours before consumption.
