Il Pirus Di Williams, Nonino Distillleria, Friuli, Italy
Nonino is better known for its grappas, but this Williams pear distillate smells of warm weather grown fruit. Pear flavours literally explode in the mouth from this smooth and powerful eau-de-vie. Enjoy in a snifter after an extended meal.

White Wines

Unoaked Sauvignon Blanc/Chardonnay, 2011, Chamisal, California
Unoaked chardonnay wines have become de rigeur in the last 5 – 6years. Generally, they are not complex but offer freshness, and some fruit. This one offers a lot of fruit – grapefruit, apples and pears. Dry int eh mouth, but soft, with a fine acidity that provides an interesting sensation. A fine food wine.

Red wines

Walking Tree cabernet Sauvignon, 2007, Block Collection, California
Subtle aromas of cassis and spices greet the nose. Smooth, full bodied, elegant and powerful. Roast leg of lamb would be a good match.

Pinot Noir, 2009, Calera, California
One of the best California pinot noirs I have come across. Superb aromas of ripe pinot noir waft out of the glass. Mid weight, deeply flavoured, elegant and balanced.

Chianti Classico Riserva, 2009, Cennatoio Oro, Tuscany, Italy
Dry, fruity with good grip. The wine has good acidity, but enough fruit to sustain it. Well balanced. A modern Chianti with hints of “old winemaking techniques”.
