Professor B’s February 16, 2013 Vintages Release Recommendations.

Vintages buyers once again have selected fine wines at reasonable cost. There us a caveat, however, in that value wines disappear quickly since they are ordered in relatively small quantities.

If you want to buy any of my recommendations listed below $ 20.00 (providing you are a resident of Ontario with easy access to a Vintages store) rush to get the wines.

Some L C B O stores (AAA classified) carry the full selection and in-store specials, others offer limited choices.

Spirits

12-Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon W L Weller and Sons
Fruity aromas waft out of the glass. Very slight taste of pepper and oil, but very smooth and elegant.

If you have ever seen a par brandy with a fully-grown pear in the bottle, here is your chance.
Fruit brandies are popular in central European countries.

This is an excellent pear brandy, offering intense pear aromas, Smooth and elegant. Once you have finished the brandy, do not break the bottle to get the pear!

Fortified Wine

Quinta Do Noval LBV, 2005
Qunita Do Noval enjoys an excellent terroir, and produces consistency fine Ports.This is one no exception, offering intense plum, blackberry and milk chocolate aromas. It still has perceptible tannins and would benefit from a few years of cellaring. A fine Port to enjoy after an extended meal.

Dessert Wine

Vin Santo Del Chianti, 2005, Casa Al Vent, Tuscany, Italy
Vin Santo (Holy Wine) is produced I every Italian province, but Tuscany is accepted as the originator of the style.
Rich aromas of dried apricots, raisins, and apples dominate the nose. Beautifully balanced with citrus notes on the palate.
Enjoy with walnut, or pecan pies, or ripe seasonal fruits.

A Bolivian diplomat established this old, quality-oriented, mid-sized producer in the 19th century.
A mouth watering refined wine that offers aromas of candied lemon peel, Granny Smith apples, and biscuit. Light, refreshing and supremely balanced.

Black cherry and smoke aromas greet the nose.
This is a blockbuster of a wine from a quality-oriented winery. Full bodied with a long finish and intensity difficult to find in any other wine of this vintage from the Napa Valley. Can be cellared fro five to six years for additional refinement.
