Professor B’s February 2, 2013 Vintages Release Recommendations.

wine

Following the first release of 2013 that featured great bargains, this one, much larger than the preceding, offers very fine wines, and spirits, some of which represent outstanding value.

Here are my recommendations:

Spirit

Sazerac 18 Year Old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey
For most spirit drinkers Canadian whisky represents rye whisky, in reality Canadian whisky is a blend of rye, wheat, corn, and other grains.
The straight rye whiskey from Kentucky is well rounded, smooth, with spicy undertones and cinnamon. This fine whiskey has a gentle and enduring finish.

Dutton Palms Vineyard Chardonnay, 2010, Dutton Estates, California

An excellent food wine.

Red wines

Signature Cabernet Sauvignon, 2009, Chappellet, Napa Valley, California
A terrific cabernet sauvignon from a famous winery. Aromas of blackberry and cherry dominate, buttressed with toasty oak. A well balanced, structured, and extracted wine that can be enjoyed with food now, or cellared for another three to four years for more complexity.
