Symington Family Estates – Douro Valley, Portugal
Though the estate was established in 1882 and remains the only leading family-owned Port company, the Symington name has been associated with the Port trade since 1652.
Their property holdings in the Douro Valley represent the largest controlled by a single wine establishment and include some of the region’s greatest vineyards:

Symington Family Estates owns Graham’s, Cockburn’s, Warre’s, Dow’s, and Blandy’s in Madeira.
This large company produced approximately 40 per cent of all premium ports sold int eh world.
In addition to all the above, Symington Estates owns and operates Graham’s 1890 Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia on the south bank of the Douro River opposite the city of Oporto.
It overlooks this majestic river flowing into the Atlantic ocean.
Symington Family Estates is the only port producer operating a company owned cooperage which is crucial for tawny port quality.
It was involved in the creation of Cryseia, a fabled red wine, in collaboration with the Prats family in Bordeaux.
