Top Wine under 20$ – Carrascal 2010
Grape : MALBEC 40%, CABERNET SAUVIGNON 40%, MERLOT 20%.
From Argentine and Bodega Weinert.
This is a wine we like very much. It has good and smooth fullness throughout with flavors of ripe dark berries, spice and barrel. The finish is long and pleasant with good harmony. Those who likes powerful wines may well drink this alone, but for most people will probably some tasteful barbecue be a perfect combination.
Founded in 1975 by Bernardo Weinert, a Brazilian businessman of German origin, Cavas de Weinert has gone on to become one of highest-acclaimed wineries in Argentina. Since its first vintage in 1977, Bodegas Weinert has maintained a strict commitment to producing only high-quality wines and is recognized around the world as an icon of Argentine elegance and style.
The vineyards where the grapes used to produce the wines of Bodegas Weinert are located in the regions of Luján de Cuyo and Maipú. Vine age ranges from 25 to 100 years old. The beautiful underground cellars were built in 1890 and 1975, and it is here that the red wines are aged for more than two years in European oak casks, giving the wines complexity, stability and grand aging potential.
The varieties planted at the estate are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gamay, Chenin Blanc and Tempranillo. Winemaker Hubert Weber follows a minimalist approach to winemaking. The grapes are fermented in cement vats and then aged neutral, large oak of Slovenian or French origin. The reds are aged for 2-4 years but the Estrella wines cask selections ‒ are aged much longer.
