Professor B’s March 5 Vintages Release Recommendations

This 100 plus release features several Napa valley and Brunello Di Montalcino wines
Most of the Napa wines are from well-known and reliable wineries.

Brunello di Montalcino wines are all from the 2010 vintage touted to be very good.
Other wines in the release range from fine to very fine and some are attractively priced, especially those from the Niagara Peninsula.

The quality of Niagara Peninsula chardonnays and rieslings along with many others have been improving over the last decade. This specially true for small and “virtual” wineries.

Peninsula red wines, especially pinot noir and cabernet franc taste better now and offer more depth as vines are getting older.

One champagne, one Moscato d’Asti, a few Irish whiskies, and one riesling icewine compete the offerings of this release.

Here are my recommendations:

Whiskey

Twin Wood 16-Year-Old Irish Single Malt, Knappogue Castle, Ireland
Opens up with roasted nuts, caramel and graham cracker aromas.
This rare Irish whiskey was aged for 14 years in second-use Bourbon barrels, and finished in oloroso sherry wood.
It is smooth and rich with apricot and candied orange peel flavours.
A superb sipping whiskey.
